UPVC Doors

UPVC multipoint locking systems for doors are a highly effective way of securing your property. They are highly durable and resistant to burglary. Yale UPVC locks come with an adjustable design, allowing the fitter to optimise the position of the external hooks. The lock is operated by lifting the handle up, which engages the locking points. By turning the key, the deadlock secures the door. Multi-point locking systems are used most commonly on UPVC doors. Although, they are also used on composite doors as they are highly secure.

There are many things you can do to maintain your UPVC door and locking system, including having regular checks from a qualified locksmith. You should lift the handle smoothly, so there is no sudden bang, as the force can cause issues to the lock and cause it to become weak. You can also frequently lubricate the locking points and cylinder to ensure the UPVC stays in good shape.

Lock Upgrades

Standard euro cylinder locks have been known to have many weaknesses and be vulnerable to break-ins. Upgrading your security systems can be beneficial to you. A modern locking system will protect your home and belongings from burglary and damage. A Kitemark symbol can act as a visual deterrent to discourage thieves from breaking and entering as it is a sign of quality. Also, locks with this symbol are harder to pick. High security locks have deliberate weak points which makes them resistant to lock snapping. They are also resistant to ‘lock bumping’ as they have low and high driver pins. Cylinder locks are vulnerable to lock drilling and spool pin picking, whereas multi-point locking systems are resistant to these weaknesses.

Lock Repairs

There are many reasons why a lock may need repairing, for example if it has become broken or damaged. If the lock is jammed, there may be a problem with the euro cylinder. This is indicated by the key not turning or going all the way in. In this case, the euro cylinder may need replacing, after the door has been opened in a non-destructive way. This problem could occur if the system is worn, the lock was manufactured from cheap materials, or the lock is out of sync.

If the UPVC door will not close, then the latch is not adjusted correctly, or the trim rubber is not sitting properly. I can repair any problem you have with your locking systems, and even replace the whole lock if necessary. Also, I repair any latch, deadbolt, roller cam, mushroom cam or hook and pin, and I have a range of spare parts available in my stock if necessary.

British Standards

Having a lock that complies with the relevant British Standards is important. This keeps your property as secure as possible and keeps your security in line with your insurance policies. BS3621 is a standard that applies to mortice and cylinder locks where a key can be used from both sides. BS8621 applies to locks which require a key to enter the property but not to leave. These are more common in flats and apartments to allow for a fast exit in the case of a fire or emergency. BS10621 is relevant to locks that only lock from outside using a key. Although, they can be opened from the inside without a key. The three most common domestic locks are mortice locks, euro cylinders and night latches. They all should comply with British Standards to ensure your belongings and property are secure against theft and damage.
