Security Advice

With home intrusion posing a risk to your belongings and family, having a secure locking system in place is very important to reduce the likelihood of a break-in. Keeping valuables out of sight, closing all windows and checking door locks are all ways of reducing the risk of burglary. However, with lock picking being a common way of burglars gaining entry, it is important that your locks are up-to-date and highly robust. Keeping ladders and tools stored away or in a shed prevents access to them. It also stops their use to gain easy access to an upstairs window.

You should always double lock your front and back UPVC doors by lifting the handle and turning the key. This is the same even if you are just in the driveway or garden. Other security measures you could have installed are outdoor lighting systems and a visual burglar alarm to visually deter burglars. You should also keep keys stored in a cupboard or well away from the letterbox. This is because devices can be used to hook keys through the letterbox if they are in reach.

Types of Locks

A sashlock consists of both a deadbolt and a latch, and a handle is required to open the door. Although, you can also choose to lock the door using a key. They are commonly used for interior and exterior wooden doors. Deadlocks are very similar to a sashlock, except they do not have a latch in which you can lock the door with. They are only able to open and close using a key, meaning they are a more secure way of locking a door. Rimlocks are locks that are mounted on the surface of the door, for example the common Yale Lock, although they have become less popular in the recent years.

British Standards

The BS 3621 is a British Standard that applies to mortice and cylinder rim locks that require a key to be opened on both sides. The BS 8621 is a British Standard that applies to locks that require a key for entering the premises but not for exiting. They are commonly found in apartments and flats and you turn the latch on the inside to lock it whilst inside, meaning you can escape the apartment quickly in the case of emergency. The BS 10621 applies to locks that can only be locked from the outside, using a key. Moreover, they can be opened internally without needing a key, unless they have been disabled with a key from the outside. They are usually found on properties that have more than one easily accessible escape route.

Lock Changing

I can provide safe and reliable lock changing for all requirements. For example, if your current lock breaks, you have lost your keys, or you need an upgrade for your security systems. I carry the necessary tools in my vehicle, so I can change your lock onsite when I arrive at your property without having to travel to get them. In the case that you have been burgled, I can replace the entire lock and repair any damage that may have been caused to the door. You may require your lock changing or re-keying if the pins and levers within the lock are damaged or worn, as this could make the door more challenging to unlock. Sometimes re-keying is a more affordable solution compared to changing the whole lock, although changing the lock is more secure.

Working in Banks

Banks is a large coastal village in the county of Lancashire that lies just south of the Ribble Estuary. It is administered by the North Meols Parish Council and the West Lancashire Borough Council, and the village is in the South Ribble parliamentary constituency. Banks is home to Banks Methodist Primary School, The Parish Church of Saint Stephen in the Banks, and the Railway Drain flows through the village. Historically, the village was known for its agriculture, fishing and good soil, and it is still being used today for producing flowers and vegetables on the farms near Banks.
